Guided tour
A short walk through SocioLens, following one research task from a debate to a question you could study. It takes about ten minutes.
The task
You are a sociology PhD student. Survey fieldwork is expensive, and you are thinking of replacing part of your sample with responses simulated by a large language model (so-called silicon samples). Is that defensible, and is there a thesis in it?
The tour follows that question through the site: the debate it belongs to, the claim it rests on, that claim's sources, and a research opportunity that grows out of it.
How it works
On each page a box at the bottom of the screen says what to look at, and the part of the page it means is outlined. Use Next to move on, Back to go back, and Exit tour to leave at any point: you stay on the page you are reading, and nothing is saved.
All 12 steps

- See what is still unknown
- Find the claim your plan rests on
- Check the claim before you cite it
- Follow it to its sources
- Go to the original
- From the claim to a research question
